"The Future of Affirmative Action"

Very, very interesting debate. I must say that I for one, feel that Affirmative Action is a blessing. I do think that it did play a role in my college admittances. However, there is need to discuss what it is today, and what it needs to become in the future. I found this video to be rather informative.

Wow ABC. Thanks for the 4 Hours

Its season finale time! All of the major shows that run on a fall-spring basis have begun closing down shop for the summer, leaving us with 2-3 months of wondering what will happen to our favorite characters.

Of the many season finales I've watched in the past weeks, none got to me as much as Lost and Grey's Anatomy did.

Say what you want about the shows, but those were some damn good four hours of television.

I'll begin with Lost. Lost is a show that I used to make fun of, simply because I didn't have the patience to deal with so many unanswered questions. Yet, this season I decided to give it a chance - it played either before or after another show I liked to watch (Life on Mars. Was great, but the ending left me with mixed feelings) so I figured I'll stick around and see what all the hype was about. I thought that since Lost was entering its fifth season and already had a locked fan-base that I wasn't apart of, I wouldn't get into it.

Boy was I wrong.

Week after week I watched and slowly got dragged under. So much so, that during the season's ending, I was at the edge of my seat. As a nifty bonus, there was the prospect of the nature of time through out the season. Anyways, here are the final scenes:

I swear I had a fit when the screen flash to white. I can't believe I now have to wait till 2010 to see how everything wraps up, but in the mean time, I'll just have to catch up by watching the first four seasons.

As for Grey, I must say that throughout the ep I was rather bored. It was a fairly pleasant two hour ride with a few bumps, but nothing I thought was be too shocking. Izzy had went under the knife to remove a tumor in her brain, George joined the army, and so on. But then, in the last five minutes, it all shot to hell.

I completely didn't see this coming. And that double O seven scene - I just couldn't get it out of my head for days. I personally think that George is dead, but we'll see in the fall.

All in all, it was a well spent four hours. Nothing to do now but wait. Damn it.

DL Hughley Breaks The News, Appears To Be Canceled

As the title states, it appears that D.L.'s news show is to be canceled.

I'm personally disappointed by this. I really did enjoy this show. I'll admit that at first, the humor was a bit... strenuous at times, it indeed picked up in later weeks. To me, D.L. presented himself as an intellectual from the way he talked about the issues with his guests. Yet, I'm aware of the resistance from the black community, stating that his humor was - among other things - embarrassing to us.

Let me say this: I never felt embarrassed nor thought that his humor held any ill intentions (to our race). The reason why I enjoyed this show was because it had placed a comedic spin on the week's news and even informed me about things I may have missed. It was a great show to unwind with on a Saturday night, in light of all the hell going on with the economy and other social issues.

Of course, this show's cancellation has made me think of a certain theme that bothers me - one I hope to discuss a bit later, but is outside of the scope I'd like for this post to possess.

The 11th Doctor: To Be Reveal Tomorrow

I was poking around my newsfeed and found this headline over on BBC News:

New Doctor Who to be announced

And of course, knowing the big Dr. Who fan I am, I just had to read the article. Its been known that David Tennant is leaving the show before the 2010 series begins, but tomorrow we get to know whos replacing him.

While I'm really excited to find out, a large part of me can't bare the thought of it. Its rare that I become so attached to a show - let alone a character - so its going to be hard for me to imagine anyone else after Tennant* (my cousin shares the same sentiment, judging from her hearty "Damn him" when I first informed her of his decision to leave).

Yet still, the show is moving in new direction in almost every way. And as annoying as his departure will be, I can't see myself not watching - save for the new staff somehow royally messing up, which I doubt is possible.

Either way, heres to doctors to come and doctors long past.

*Yes I'm aware of nine other people playing the role. Its just hard for me to see an 11th doctor -- I simply don't know why.

David Tennant leaves Doctor Who

And so, if you haven't already heard about it, Mr. Tennant has recently announced that he will be leaving the show after the four specials in 2009. So many people seem to be moving on, I'm not sure if the show will have the same spark in 2010. No matter who the next Doctor is, I will be watching, but no one can replace Tennant as my favorite Doctor.

Heres the announcement:

And just for kicks, heres a fans reaction:

Bush's War - PBS Frontline Documentary

I finally got to sit down and watch this today. Taken from the official website, here is a basic overview of the film:

A two part special series that tells the epic story of how the Iraq war began and how it has been fought, both on the ground and deep inside the government.

I really enjoyed this show. It offered a very good look at how the war became twisted and strayed from its original goal and how the key players in Washington allowed all of it to happen. If you have some free time - and I mean a lot of it. This is not a short walk in the park - I suggest you watch it. Matter of fact, even if you don't have the free time, make it. The whole series is online here, divided into segments.

Doctor Who - Time Crash

I heard about this some time ago, but I only just went to look for it this morning. Basically this is a nice little short in which the tenth doctor (the current one) meets the fifth doctor. It takes place right when the third series ended and is pretty funny to watch. Anyways here is the video along with the behind the scenes video. Enjoy!

Season Finale of Torchwood/Doctor Who on BBC America

Tonight, BBC America aired the finales of Torchwood and Doctor Who. Both of them just so happened to be superb. Torchwood's especially was just captivating - partly because I had already seen the Doctor Who finale but mostly because it just simply stood out on its own. Two of the main characters ended up dying tonight. Of course, one of them was already dead and all (really long story. watch the show to find out) but their deaths were still powerful nonetheless. I must hand it to the writers of both shows - very good job tonight. You already have me impatiently waiting for series 3 of Torchwood.

And as for Doctor Who, it is not that I did not like the finale of series 3 because I'd already seen it. In fact, its possible that I've even had more fun this time around - I was able to get a cousin of mine and my mother to get into it as well. Plus, watching John Simms play the Master was great. He really did do a wonderful job at playing the role of a crazed antithesis to David Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor.

Though there is one thing that is bothering me. Scifi happens to be the channel to be showing new episodes yet BBC America just finished showing series 3. I would think BBC America would be the the one to show the new series 4, but I guess that there must be some deal that was made or something. Oh well, there is no point in complaining about who shows what so long as I get to watch my shows. I win either way so I'm happy.

Series Four of Doctor Who in America

So yea. The new series of Doctor Who begins in America on April 18th on the Scifi Channel. The season premier will be the 2007 Christmas Special, "Voyage of the Damned". It would appear that this series of the show just began in England yesterday, so we won't be far behind. I just can't wait for it to start. I've been needing my Doctor Who fix lately, and the long wait did not help at all.

Anyways, here's to another hopefully great season of the show. I have no doubt that the fourth series will be just as good as the other three that came before it.

Doctor Who Series Four Promo

I am a huge Doctor Who fan. One night I was flipping through the channels and found it and since then I've been hooked. So as of right now, I'm re-watching series three on BBC America in anticipation for series four. I'm not too sure on the date that it will start, but I hear its sometime in spring this year. Really, if you like sci-if randomness, a good story, and humor, look into Doctor who. Now finally I leave you with a promo for series four.
